Expiring Domains
This is the Normal timeline on what happens when a Domain Expires.
Before Expiry
The registrar will send out renewal notifications. In Dynadot, the date will be in color orange.
1 Month Cooling Period
Once the domain expires, the website goes offline, in most cases, the domain will stay with the Registrar for 1 month for recovery. The Cooling period will be longer for some for those with added protection. In Dynadot, these domains are in the Inactive tab, if it can be recovered, it will be for a higher fee.
Transferring Expired Domains
When a domain in our Dynadot Account is due for recovery for an active client, we cover the recovery fees, usually it'll cost around $100.88.
If a cancelled client wants to transfer a domain out but it needs recovery, the client needs to cover the recovery fee.
Clients with expired domains in their own registrar, they must cover the fees.
1 Month After Expiry / Post Cooling Period
Domain gets Auctioned and no longer retriveable. Unless the client pays for the hefty amount they will demand to let the domain go.
4 Months After Expiry / Post Auction
When no one shows interest to buy the Domain from Auction, the Auctioneers will release it. The domain will appear that it can be purchases anew again
